Vendor Feature: Julie Swenson Beauty

At Style-Architects, we only want the best of the best for our brides.

Get to know Julie Swenson, a favorite for hair and makeup services to Minnesota brides and the talented owner/creator of Julie Swenson Beauty.

Much more than a freelance hairstylist/makeup artist, Julie is a health coach, mom to 8 year old Evan, Metallica fan and a martini drinker {neat}.  Julie will tell you it is not easy being a business owner and a stay-at-home mom, but it is something she juggles beautifully and it shows in the success of Julie Swenson Beauty.

Though Julie is not limited to bridal hair/makeup {editorial and lifestyle hair/makeup as well}, she shares with us here why she loves doing makeup for the big day and even gives us some tips along the way!

What is it you love most about doing BRIDAL hair/makeup?

I love making women look and feel beautiful, especially on such an important day in their life.

What is your current beauty obsession?

I love how hydrated and fresh tinted moisturizer makes the skin look. It can be layered so you can customize the coverage.

What is your FAVORITE classic wedding day look?

My style is soft and romantic for makeup. I love hydrated skin, nude tones on eyelids, smudged eyeliner, full lashes, coral cheeks, and dusty rose lips. For hair, my favorite look is effortless with a lot of dimension and texture.

Why should a bride hire a makeup artist for her big day?

Makeup artists use specific techniques to enhance the facial features.  We also have professional products that help the makeup last longer and photograph well.

What should a bride look for in a hair/makeup artist?

Find one that matches your own style and personality. Do your research. Google search the artist and get to know what persona they are projecting on social media.

For the brave ones who want to go about it themselves...any professional advice?

For a gray smokey eye, use a matte grey shadow vs. shimmer. Shimmery grays tend to look shiny in photographs.

The #1 beauty must-have for a bride on her wedding day is ______.

False lashes.

The worst beauty mistake a bride can make prior to her wedding day is_____.

Too dark of a spray tan on her face. It affects the natural contour and highlight (dimension) of the face.
