The 2024 Classic Wedding Trend: A Fresh Take

If there’s one theme that has been trending this season, it’s the classic wedding. The vintage, more traditional look is back in full force—but it’s not your grandparents’ wedding! Despite the resurgence, many couples are opting for little changes in the details to keep their weddings from becoming too dated. When done right, the blend of old and new makes your wedding truly timeless!

1.     Piped Wedding Cakes

Traditional wedding cakes definitely inspire the thick, piped frosting we see in cakes today, but there’s the slightest difference in appearance. You can include some modern touches by using only one tier rather than multiple or adding a taller cylindrical shape (called a double barrel) to your tiers rather than opting for the more old-fashioned squat-tier style. Another recommendation to personalize your wedding cake and give it a modern twist is to incorporate color! (We suggest leaving off the cheesy cake topper!)

2.     Champagne Towers

Champagne towers have exploded in popularity in recent years. While the towers themselves are a magnificent statement, there are still ways you can decorate them even more! Embellishing with florals or bows (which is another trend we’ll talk more about!) adds a fun pop to your décor.

3.     Classic Cocktails

Add a fun twist by including more old-fashioned cocktails to the vibe, taking even your menu back in time. Old Fashioneds, manhattan, sidecars, gimlets are all the rage. Splurge for the coupe glasses and don’t forget a fun garnish of dried fruit, a personalized floating decal, or a stenciled design on top.

4.     Bows

Ribbons and bows are back in full force, and not just in weddings—this trend has taken over the whole world of fashion. However, while ribbons can certainly be included in your fashion choices for your big day, they don’t need to be limited to just that. Bows are being included on invitations, linens, napkins, and even the cakes themselves!

5.     Photography

Backlit and flash photography is a gorgeous way to capture your memories, but in past decades was used to create very posed portraits. Today, using a more documentary-style photographer catches more candid shots, capturing beautifully genuine moments in a very striking way!

6.     Customized Matchboxes / Matchbooks

Matchbooks are a traditional favor originally handed out for smoking at wedding celebrations, an occurrence that is uncommon in the current day—and we can certainly say that modern couples don’t hand these out to encourage the habit! Nowadays, personalized matchbooks or matchboxes can be handed out as a charming memento of your wedding. These decorative designs can be a fun display even if they're not used and a great addition to any matchbook collection!

7. Attire

From tuxedos and bowties, pearls, silk and satin dresses, gloves, and (once again) bows, classic attire is booming in popularity. Pairing a modern gown style with silk or satin fabrics can give your dress a classic touch while still appearing on trend, which can be beautifully accentuated with bows and gloves. Pearls can be included through draping on the dress or in veils, bows, gloves, and decor. Experiment with the tuxedo by changing the color or fabrication or adding a unique touch to the bowtie!
